Description
Tungsten-Chromium-Vanadium high-speed steel/" target="_blank" class="keylink">tool steel with durability and a good degree of toughness.
Applications
The steel is used for special tools, which are predominantly manufactured from plates e.g. tufting knives and loopers in the carpet industry and parts which required good wear properties.
Physical properties (avarage values) at ambient temperature
Modulus of elasticity [103 x N/mm2]: 217
Density [g/cm3]: approx. 8.30
Soft Annealing
Heat to 780-810oC, cool slowly in furnace. This will produce a maximum Brinell hardness of 300.
Stress Relieving
Stress relieving to remove machining stresses should be carried out by heating to 600-650oC, holding for one hour at heat, followed by air cooling. This operation is performed to reduce distortion during heat treatment.
Hardening
Harden from a temperature of 1210-1270oC followed by oil or warm bath quenching approx. 550oC. Hardness after quenching is 64-66 HRC.
Tempering
Tempering temperature: 540-750oC. Hardness after temepring is 63-66 HRC.
Tempering Temperature (oC) vs. Hardness (HRC)
100oC | 200oC | 300oC | 400oC | 450oC | 500oC | 550oC | 600oC | 650oC |
